From zero to the top. The history of first-class lifts.

History

On April 24 1876 Heinrich Hütter founded the machine company H. Hütter jr. The location on Kehrwieder in the Hamburg harbour was suited ideally to provide his clients with his speciality, a winch constructed by him. Apart from that he carried on with his general engineering business and installed the first electrical illumination of the Hamburg town hall square in 1882. The young firm grew rapidly and moved to the Hamburg quarter of Eilbek. In 1886 the first lift was built. The son of the founder succeeded with a difficult new beginning after the complete destruction of the firm's plant in World War II. From then on production increased so rapidly that the founder's grandson could relocate the firm to a new plant in an industrial park in Glinde near Hamburg.

1994 the company was split into Hütter-Aufzüge GmbH (lifts) in Glinde and the Hütter-Aufzüge Service GmbH in Hamburg. While Hütter-Aufzüge is responsible for distribution, construction, production and installation of new lifts, Hütter-Aufzüge Service GmbH is dedicated to the after sales service of existing lifts.

An increasing number of orders from Berlin led to the launch of Hütter-Aufzüge GmbH Berlin in 1997.

Management

Today the firm is managed by the great-grandsons of the founder: Achim Hütter and his brother Bernd Hütter. Achim Hütter took over responsibility in 1987 while still studying business economics. He is also an honorary member of the board of directors of the employer's association Nordmetall and the chairman of the association for lift engineering VFA. Like his elder brother, Bernd Hütter knows the product Hütter lift since his first work experience during school holidays. He studied engineering and joined the company in 1999 as an executive manager. His main focus is the ongoing business. Both the brothers are supported by their mother Swantje Hütter, executive manager of the Hütter-Aufzüge Service GmbH
